A Little Light Humor..

Last year the folks at Schaum Publications ran a contest for piano teachers called Excuses for Missed Lessons.  Here is one of the winners, submitted by Margo Minard of Marble Falls, Texas:

One day, one of my seventh grade girls called me and said, “Mrs. Minard, my sister and I can’t come to piano lessons next week because our Dad has an orbital flight and we want to go to the Cape to watch him take off.”  I said, “Fine.”  Then she added, “We won’t be here the next week either, as there is to be a ticker-tape parade and then we are going to the White House to meet with President and Mrs. Kennedy afterwards.”

Her student was the daughter of astronaut Gordon Cooper.

Performance Class October 27

There is a change of date for Performance Class.  It will be held at 4pm on Friday, October 27.  All students will be preparing a piece to play for the other students at this class.  Because of limited room, only students will be invited to this fun event. (Sorry!)  I am happy to be reinstating this fun program after a few year’s hiatus.

October Notes from Ms. Joanne

October is a great month–the leaves excite us, we’re settling into a good routine with school, the mornings and evenings are nice and crisp.  There are a few areas that I would like to concentrate on this month at lessons.  Beginners will be working on note recognition and time signatures, and intermediates will be spending a little extra time on notation review of signs and symbols.  All will be working on technical drills.  Since it is October, we’ll be playing some fun Halloween music.

Thank you for bringing the practice spread sheets that are given at lessons.  You are all doing a great job of keeping track of your practice.

Beginning this month, students will be starting their piano journals.  Students will be choosing favorite pieces for memorization and special attention to be included in their journals.  The journal will be included in their binder, so don’t forget to bring them!

October Student of the Month

This month marks the return of the Student of the Month award.  It was very hard to chose, since several students did exceptionally great jobs of practicing during the past few weeks.  In the end, Chelsea Beach wins out.  Congratulations, Chelsea.  You will receive a CD at your next lesson.
